INYO campgrounds opening?

Post by Iriscaddis »

Greetings everyone just curious does anybody know if some of the campgrounds are opening up in Inyo Forest, such as Big Springs near June Lake, CA? The national Forest website and FB had no information, no dates; I tried to call and you can spend your whole day trying to get through to a human being. Lol. Thanks

This is the most recent update (4/16):

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

@maverick , yes I read that list.
After snooping around the site, in the far right column,
There’s a campgrounds list but there’s no document date. Says opening Months ? ? ? Not sure how accurate it is. Thanks for the reply.

I made a reservation for a campsite at 4 Jeffrey in July, so at least it's planning to be open.

In that PDF document properties it says creation & modification date: 2/22/2021, 10:17:57 AM
And May-Oct is not overly precise. I looked at the Sentry Playground image from a week ago (last Friday has a cloud over the campground), The road and campground are visible, no snow.

snippet:

... On the north end of the Forest the minimal snowpack and mild weather conditions will likely allow the Forest Service to open several campgrounds and day use recreation sites in time for fishing opener. As April 28 nears, visit the Inyo National Forest website for projected opening dates at Old Shady, New Shady, Pine Glen, Oh! Ridge, June Lake, Gull Lake, Silver Lake, and Lower Lee Vining Campgrounds.

Campgrounds on the south end of the Forest scheduled to open for the start of fishing season, weather and snow permitting, include French Camp, Tuff, McGee Creek, Bitterbrush, Big Trees, Forks, Intake II, Bishop Park, Four Jeffery, Sage Flat, Upper Sage Flat, and Whitney Portal.

Campgrounds currently open include Grandview, Lone Pine, and Lower and Upper Grays Meadow.

Thanks @SSSdave and @mort.
Fishing opener is the weekend, 4/24 so I’ll keep checking the INYO FS site.
