No new camera (perhaps confused with someone else who has that camera). Still using my old Cannon S95 (? honestly I am not 100% sure that is what it is called). I have been setting the camera on rocks or other solid objects, when available, which may have reduced some of the camera shake when I take the photo.

I knew there were reportedly no fish currently in those lakes and Cherry Creek is flowing too high for good fishing. The old Emigrant guidebook shows fish, but evidently stocking was abandoned in the late 1980's. I do not know if further fish killing was done to create more frog habitat. There certainly are frogs in the lakes now. Many of those lakes are relatively shallow so probably poor candidates for fish anyway. Flora and Spotted Fawn, however, seem to be deep. Maybe the lakes are oxygen deprived. There are fish in Kibbie, but I did not go there. I think the area got more use pre-90's because of the fishing. I read reports of "use-trails", but what few I found were barely visible and very overgrown. There really are not any canyons, other than Cherry Creek. Edith Lake (which you can see from Nance Peak) is in the next drainage south.

I have never been to this area before. After seeing your pictures, and reading your trip report, I want to visit spotted fawn lake. What a trip. I primarily hike the east sierra. Maybe I should visit the western Emigrant wilderness.

Years ago my husband and I went to Edith Lake. Our in-route via Laurel Lake was a bushwhack deluxe. We exited up to the ridge to the south and down the adjacent drainage (not all the way to Frog Creek) and that was easier. I did not take a camera. Looking down on Edith Lake from Nance Peak really makes me want to go back to Edith Lake to get some photos and fish. May do it in the fall, as I suspect mosquitoes are already in full swing down there now. There are many hidden nooks in Northern Yosemite far from trails and difficult if not impossible to get to that are on my "to-do" list. Google Earth has been so fun to get more ideas.

Yes your right, Wandering Daisy, I mistook you for another member who had posted camera stuff. I was thinking of some other posts of areas more by Edza lake where there were pocket holes with fishing. But still you and your Canon 95 take some really nice shots !!!!

It is such a joy to read your TRs and to be awed by your beautiful pictures. Thank you very much.

Here is a map of the route. The red lines are day-hikes. (unfortunately the Yosemite Boundary is also a red line).

Awesome! One of my first trips was to this area 25 years ago, probably what got me hooked. This makes me realize I need to go back, soon! Thanks for posting.

Given the recent interest in Cherry Creek and that this TR was not listed in the "similar" trips, I replaced the defunct Photobucket pictures and bumped this up. I do not think many people read this when it was originally posted.
