I have done all those climbing routes you describe. Instead of going directly up over the chockstone on North Pal, we climbed the wall to the left, which was easy 5.0 if that. I would hate to climb down unroped, however. We rapelled. The day we did Middle Palisade, a climber fell off and died. Reminded us that even if only 3rd class, one does not want to fall! A bit freaky since we had just come down when the helicopters flew by. No ropes used on that climb.
