Pionneer Basin (via Mono Pass)

Post by d_silva1 »

Going into Pioneer Basin end of Aug. Will spend 3 - 4 days in the Basin vicinity. Any must see hikes/excursions/journeys while there? Many thank for tips.

Thank.

Just enjoy the Basin. We got caught in some tough weather there, and didn't have a chance to explore as much as we would have liked. The basin itself is well worth at least a full day of wandering around. And Fourth Recess is amazing. Nice fishing at Golden Lake if you can manage an evening visit.

The lowest lake and lakes chain east of Hopkins, highest lake in the basin near Stanford Pass, hill east of Lake 10862, wonderful view toward the Recesses, the lakes in the far eastern side of the basin, and Fourth Recess Lake.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

Is this the hill (although perhaps too far down)?
