SR108 over Sonora Pass opened today

Post by SSSdave »

Looks like...surprise SR108 over Sonora Pass opened today. So quicker access now to the Eastern Sierra. Note SR89 over Monitor Pass opened a week ago.

Was signed up for a local meetup dot com hike in Castle Rock tomorrow but now am trying to motivate this lazy retired body to pack up his bc ski gear. Looking at today's visual satellite image there is not much snow below 8500 feet as that late March warm wet storm washed away a whole lot of mid and lower elevation snows while leaving normal amounts at timberline elevations. Thus lower and mid forest elevation backpacking is getting an early start this year unless we get a cold unseasonable storm this May. A lot will be open by Memorial Day holiday. Also unless we get some cold snaps in the next few weeks, mosquitoes could be really bad sooner than usual.
