Hey all! I've only hitched so far in the Eastern Sierra from Whitney Portal to Lone Pine - which is a piece of cake in July. This summer I'll be coming out probably at Cottonwood Lakes - mid week, mid September. If I come off trail around 3pm, can I reasonably expect to find a hitch that day? I'm not sure how busy it's going to be up there that late in the season. Worst case scenario, would you bring an extra dinner just in case you need to camp another night? Or even worse, road walk back to LP? Or am I just worrying too much?
Thanks,
Mike

I would say that there will be a few people going down the hill at the end of the day, even mid-week in mid September, and your chances are good. You could also call one of the shuttles. Kurt might still be operating that late in September:
