Carson Pass to Echo Summit

Post by socothedog »

I'm planning to backpack this weekend. Our route will start at Carson Pass to Shower Lake to Echo Summit Hawely Grade and Back to Carson pass via round lake.

Is there reliable water sources past Shower Lake to Echo and from Echo to Round Lake?

Has anyone done any part of this route lately?

Any information is greatly appreciated.

Both of those streams should have water this year. I haven't been there, but it's a really wet year, and there's certainly water everywhere else in the Sierra. The PCT (Showers to Echo Summit) stays pretty high on the crest until it drops down into Benwood Meadow. From Echo Summit to Round Lake you're down in the valley, following a creek most of the way.

Just as an FYI, we really like Dardanelles Lake--the nicest of the bunch. Meiss Lake is a bit of a swamp. FWIW...
