mammoth camping

are reds meadow and mineret falls closed for the season?
or did the road maybe never open?
we are going to try to switch out a permit and head that way next weekend and wanted some ideas of where to camp. i love red meadow!

Reds meadow resort closes Sept 29. The campground is already closed.
The campgrounds in Mammoth Lakes (the lakes, not the town) close in late October.
The campgrounds in town are open year round I believe.

The road to Red’s Meadow (Minaret Summit Road) should be open until any substantial snow falls. The time period (summer season) requiring mandatory use of the shuttle bus - to get there from Mammoth - is over, so you can drive there any time of day. The Devil’s Postpile campground (NPS) never opened this year, due to winter storm damage. Minaret Falls campground (Inyo N.F.) is open, but estimated to close by Sunday 9/22.
