Conditions in Carson Pass area?

Post by msshea »

I was in Carson Pass last July and the flowers were fantastic. I'll be there again on the 11th and 12th and maybe around the 20th. Wondering if anyone has hiked up toward Winnemucca Lake or north of Rt. 88 on the PCT and noticed what's blooming.

Thanks,
Merrill

I hiked to Showers Lake (Carson Pass/Hwy 88) on Friday. The flowers were, in a word, spectacular. Never seen them better.

What's blooming? I don't know all the names, but both red & white Indian Paintbrush, Columbine, Mules Ears, Larkspur, Pussypaws; and literally dozens of others. They seem to be at peak right now.

I was up for a day hike two weekends ago. The wildflowers were great, but not quite as great as I have seen with more spring rains. It was still worth it. Columbine, lupine, mules ears, indian paintbrush, forget me nots, etc.

No snow on the way up to Round Top Peak.

Enjoy your trip!
