Hey all, looking for your recommendations for a winter backpacking trip. Probably just a couple nights but maybe longer. Not looking to slog through snow the whole time so maybe something lower elevation. I'm very experienced backpacking and winter route-finding, and I'll be taking my father along who is even more experienced, but I'm not actually looking for an epic. Let me know your ideas.

It would help to get an idea of where you live, or are willing to travel.

In the Sierra there are a few trails that meet that criteria. But that won't help much if you are in Wisconsin. Or Georgia.

OP has mentioned Morro Bay in previous post. :)

If he lives in Morro Bay, Big Sur's Ventana wilderness should open up at some point this winter. Pretty nice spot. Try here.

If you want something in the Sierra that doesn't have too much snow, the Southern Sierra is where you want to look. Domelands Wilderness type stuff. Kennedy Meadows south is still snow free on this snow map. Others who've been there can give you better recommendations on where & what to do than I can.

Ishi Wilderness is low elevation and below the snow line.

Big Falls to Little Falls loop in Los Padres NF above Arroyo Grande looks fun.
