Replacement Strap for Black Diamond Spot Headlamp

Post by John Harper »

Does anyone know of a replacement, preferably improved, strap for a Black Diamond Spot? The strap that came with it is a piece of crap. I have an average size head (7 1/4 hat) and I have never been able to make it fit. I have the adjusters set a short as possible and the damn thing still fits loose. I have no idea what idiot designed the strap, but they obviously gave no thought to the fabric stretching and having a way to compensate adequately.

I have managed to "re-engineer" it so it's snug, but there's got to be a better strap out there.

I've only used this thing around the house a few times, so it really has not had a chance to stretch out. I emailed Black Diamond but have had no response, and I cannot seem to find a replacement strap on their website. Not that I really want to buy the same piece of junk again. I like the Spot headlamp, but the crappy headstrap is a total loser.

Anyone know of a better headstrap for my B-D Spot?

maybe time for a different brand? I like Petzl. Bands go bad and I just get a new light; they aren't expensive. I have 3 Petzl's.. I always carry two when duck hunting, and for backpacking, I only carry extra batteries, but never had to use them. Brightest ones are the best.

Go to a fabric store, buy elastic and sew it on for a custom fit?

Increasing your carbon footprint in just the drive. Get a new headlamp.

You probably have already looked, but I see a couple of replacement straps on Amazon. I don't have any personal experience with either of the replacements.

Yep. Or just attach it to a hat with Velcro.

Funny, I had exactly the same problem with a BD spot strap.
I cut it shorter and sewed it back together. It still had some elasticity so it was tight on my head.
After 10+ years, I replaced it with a more modern BD headlamp. Generally great design, but same issue with the strap - I will have to shorten the strap in the future.

I have not heard a thing from Black Diamond customer service. Emailed them almost a week ago.
