Tioga Road / Pass 10/19 Closure

Post by maverick »

Yosemite NP:
Tioga Pass (continuation of Highway 120 through the park) will temporarily close tonight (Thursday, October 19) at 5 pm in anticipation of snow. We will reevaluate the road on Friday. Call 209/372-0200 (then 1, 1) for the most up-to-date road status information.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

We drove over the pass just 5 minutes before it closed! The weather was clear. Rangers were getting people out. The road was nearly empty, which was good for us because we were hauling a trailer. We camped at Yosemite Lakes RV park and about midnight it started raining hard- about half an inch of rain, which quit before dawn. Looks like this was a short-lived storm.

By the way, there was lots of smoke on the east side between the White Mountains and the Sierra. Nice that the rain knocked down smoke on the west side- beautiful drive home to Sacramento.
