I scrolled through the photo posting thread and this photo testing thread, but did not find any information on resizing photos in HST posts. When/if I add a photo in a response, I would like to make it smaller so as not to impose on or detract from the original post. Can anyone recommend how to resize, or shrink a photo with BBcode? The attachment buttons below work fine to insert a photo inline with the text.

Code: Select all

[attachment=1]IMG_0898pika2FishBuddySmall.jpg[/attachment]

But resizing with rimg=50% or img width="100" does not seem to resize the image
The help prompt for rimg says it scales up to full window size.

If I resize the external image to 320x240pixels there is some shrinkage. Is that the best way?

Just Curious. Thank you.

I will not say that this is the only way to resize, but I've found the most convenient method for me is to use Irfanview. It has a batch resizing function that can resize to different selectable parameters.

By the way, that is a cute pika. However, have you ever seen a pika that wasn't cute?

I just resize in paint until I get to the magic posting number (2.5M)
I prefer 1.5M. Depending on original size, I slice about 30% at a time and check properties on the pic before I post.

Thank you for the notes. I was externally resizing the pika photos with Irfanview (pixels width +height) until it looked smaller when posted as in the second photo above. With Irfanview there is some control of the resampling resolution and dpi. I did not experiment with those as the BBcode attachment function seems to auto-expand most photos to the full window view size dimensions as long as the file size is below the HST limit.

Yes, the pikas were cute. In this one location it seemed there was an unusually large number of the them. And they seemed to ignore me as I was sitting still, observing the scenic views at sunset.

Whatever you do is fine with me as long as you capture brilliant images of these pika creatures!1 Nice! Thanks for the beautiful photo Dwwd.
