Not quite "perfect" since it is technically "illegal". Here are other "perfectly illegal" campsites. In these cases when I do not meet the distance rule from water, I am very careful to do all potentially polluting activities at the 200-foot limit. I only stay one night at these kind of campsites and only when solo to reduce impact. Ionian Basin is another place where finding ANY campsite is challenging.

WD, that's a super nice camp under Scylla! Here's a favorite from this past April. NW end of the Mendel-Darwin Crest.

My first try with the spartan "Betalight." Worked well, weighs nothing.

The old tent gave up the ghost this year! Here are photos of camping in my newest tent, the Tarptent Notch.

And here is an oldie- Me cooking (in my wool long johns) before we had camp stoves! Or tents -that is an old fashioned tarp in the background.

It took a lot of practice and experimenting to set it up quickly. Like all non-free standing tents, if you pop a critical stake, it falls down; so I took 10 stakes with me this summer. I will take 6 in the future now that I have the set-up figured out. Being a trekking pole tent, I am VERY careful not to do something stupid like leave trekking poles at a rest stop! It did great in heavy rain and wind. No condensation problems like my old Moment because there are two doors. The no-zipper fly so far has not been a problem- it closes up pretty tight with the Velcro. I still prefer a free-standing tent, but am willing to give up some convenience for less weight. The door openings are fairly small, so I think big guys would have some difficulties, but it is perfect for me.

I don’t need a goal destination. I need a destination that meets my goals.
