I just have a comment...awesome!!!!

I filled out a few of the original forms, and while it worked, it was also a little frustrating. This one is MUCH nicer.

Thank you much fellas

Another idea I had with the original form, is it would be nice if there was a place here to upload it, perhaps in a place only moderators could access to keep privacy. Perhaps that is unnecessary, it is just an idea.

Thanks Sparky! The original form is no more Sparky.

Notice that treking poles, yes or no, is not included in the gear part at the bottom. (The marks left are an obvious sign for anybody searching?)

I also prefer this simpler form in terms of the information requested.

However, making it an HTML file creates certain problems that could be solved if it was an interactive PDF. I tried filling it out part of it and when I tried to save it, kept receiving an error message saying "the download can't be saved."

I find Hillmap a slow, cumbersome, poor resolution application. It would be much better to be able to plug in a PDF or JPEG of a map created in TOPO or one created independently (I use downloaded USGS maps edited and stitched together in Photoshop). If it was an interactive PDF this would be possible by doing it as an attached or inserted file instead of requiring a URL as in an HTML. (I do not know if the ability to do this is only available in Acrobat Pro since that is the version of Acrobat I have due to my day-job work).

I also agree with Marksor on the treking poles.

Leaving a foil impression of the bottom of your boot is much, much, much better than whether or not you have trekking poles.

Too many people have trekking poles - we ignore them and look for foot prints.

Thank you Mark for you input.
The "Other durable and/or distinguishable gear" section at the bottom is specifically for
this purpose.

So, adding a PDF/interactive into the page would make things even slower than the
Hillmap option Lawrence. Just so you know you are not restricted to using Hillmaps,
any map url can be uploaded. I have asked Jeremy to add another text box under the
"Map URL" box which will allow for uploading a 2.5 MB JPEG screen shots of a map.

I don't want to add a URL. I want to add a map. jpeg. Too be absolutely clear, this is just a file. not a pointer to a file.

This is exactly the point I was trying to make.
So, adding a PDF/interactive into the page would make things even slower
I wasn't suggesting adding an interactive PDF into an HTML file. I was suggesting making the Recon form an interactive PDF. If the format of the Recon file is an interactive PDF instead of HTML, I don't think adding a map would make it slower - you simply insert the map page into the interactive PDF if it is correctly designed.

Maybe there are some expert computer folks out there who will correct me on this, but my experience (30 years) tells me that HTML is not the best format for this. You want something that can be saved with the same basic information at the top of the form and then fill in the specific trip information at the bottom and give the PDF a new name for that specific trip. My example for this sort of PDF is the Yosemite Wilderness Permit form.
