New Spammers

Instead of emailing or messaging the Admins or Mods with technical support questions or comments about the site, we prefer you check here to see if someone else has had the same difficulty or has made the same suggestion. What you're after might have already been posted and addressed here or within the FAQ. If not, please post a detailed description of the problem/suggestion and someone from the HST team will address your needs shortly. If you can't login/post and are unable to reset your password on your own, you may contact us directly.

New Spammers

Post by zacjust32 »

It seems like there are an abnormal amount of spammers and fake accounts as of late. Is this due to some new forum change or security change. Is there a way to combat this?

No changes to the forums. It just happens from time to time - constant cat and mouse. Recaptcha and other 3rd party counter measures we have in place will eventually take care of the problem. For now we just have to deal with it manually.

Wonder how many STD's were picked up with the latest round?

Not sure. We should ask Mark. He was the one who came into the most contact.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

Best approach is just to report the post, and the HST admins/mods do a great job of deleting them. Mark does a wonderful job around 2am and 4am to clean them up.

^^this.

I did make some security tweaks that may help improve things. Always a balance. Too tight and good people unintentionally get blocked out with the spammers. Too loose and we get hammered...
