Baxter Pass 7/12-7/13

Post by LincolnB »

July 12 and 13 I camped at 11,000' below Baxter pass while climbing nearby peaks. Mosquitoes were 2.5, dawn and dusk. Nothing like a welcome party after a hard day climbing...

July 11-13, Jennie Lakes Wilderness. Mosquitoes showed up in huge numbers around dusk, but were gone by around 9:30 or so. Around a 3.

Agnew meadow to Garnet/1000 islands lake 07/19

Post by oddtiger »

Quick day trip to fish out of Agnew meadow, mosquitoes are minimum during the day along the river trail route: Agnew->Garnet->1000 islands->Agnew. It's 1.5 at most.

Kearsarge Pass - Rae Lakes - Sixty Lakes Basin 7/20 to 7/22/2020

Post by KathyW »

Close to zero the whole trip. I have been spraying my clothing with Permathrin and I sprayed some DEET on each morning. Still, I only remembering seeing one mosquito and that was in the Sixty Lakes Basin area.

July 23-26, Desolation Wilderness
Lake Aloha, China Flat, Dick's Lake
Pretty much a 1 everywhere with Permethrin and bug spray. Maybe a 2 in the wooded/marshy areas, esp in China Flat.
Ranger I spoke to said they've been on the decline for the past few weeks.

Re: SHR from Copper Creek 7/23-7/78

Post by AaronRDavis »

Sierra High Route from Copper Creek to Lake Basin, over Cartridge, Pinchot, back to Roads end via Woods Creek: 1 or 2 mostly in wet areas. With Permethrin treated clothes, I managed to never need my headnet and just applied DEET on legs a couple times as I wore shorts the entire time.
