Baboon Lakes 6/26-27

I’d rate Baboon Lakes as a 3, but borderline 4. We were blessed with an on and off stiff breeze that helped on Friday hiking in - skeeters got bad as we hit the Donkey/Baboon split. Didn’t have that breeze today hiking out and you could tell - skeeters from Baboon down well past Blue Lake... but tapering off as you got lower.

Grand Canyon of the Tuolomne and Ten Lakes Loop 6/26-6/28

In much of the lower GC of the Tuolomne (up to ~5500 feet), I'd rate it a 2. Things got progressively worse climbing up to Glen Aulin and the top of Tuolomne Peak ridge (up to about a 3). My night at Ten Lakes was a bit windier and better, but man....the forested segment from the Ten Lakes/White Wolf intersection near Yosemite creek was terrible (strong 4). They would only stay off of me if I settled into a jog.

Beyers Lake area, Grouse Lakes RA, Tahoe NF, June 27-29

I backpacked into Beyers Lakes and then dayhiked beyond it towards Baltimore Lake. Elevations 6000 to 8000 feet. Generally on south facing slopes. Wildflowers were peaking, but mosquitoes were not bad. Generally level 2 in sheltered areas. It was quite windy the whole time which kept the mosquitoes away in open areas. Never used any repellent, and only got a few bites.

As of last week, Vidette and Junction meadows were both 3's. East Lake was verging on 4 at the inlet campgrounds, and Kearsarge Lakes were a 1.

The entire trail was a 1, except for a few stray skeeters while crossing Ribbon Meadow. This was despite Ribbon Creek and Tamarack Creek still flowing decently well.

3 with no wind/calm conditions. Everyone brought muzzy nets, otherwise they'd have been quite annoyed.

Humphreys Basin/French Canyon 6/28-7/1

Fierce wind on Sunday, 6/28 followed by a stiff breeze on 6/29 and 6/30 kept mosquitoes to a 1 in all locations except swampier ephemeral streams in Humphreys Basin, which were a 2. On Wednesday, 7/1, the breeze disappeared and the mosquitoes appeared as if they were conjured by a magician. I'd call it a 3 in the drier areas away from water, and a 4 anywhere close to water.
