Yeah, really seems like the mosquito season is over. Time to put up the hammock and enjoy life :)

Went all over the basin, visited every lake including Sam Mack Meadow
Pretty much a 1 or none everywhere
I got a couple of bites in the evening while getting water at the creek but never bothered with DEET

Aug 1: Pine Creek to Granite Park - 1. Few flying, not bad.
Aug 2: Granite Park to Big Bear Lake via Dancing Bear - 0 / 1. Few in Granite Park, otherwise none.
Aug 3: Big Bear Lake to Merriam Lake - 1 / 2. Semi-annoying at Merriam, but not "bad".
Aug 4: Merriam to French Lake - 1 / 2 (only a 2 in the descent from Merriam to the main trail)
Aug 5: French to Pine Creek - 1. Few pesky ones on the trail, but not bad.

Only used picaridin coming down from Merriam. Breeze/wind each afternoon/evening it seemed. Perfect weather. Saw the Chinook recovery on Monday evening. Hope to actually do a trip report this time...

oooh look forward to the report. In the meantime this is a reminder that I didn't really post the mosquito conditions for 7/21-28 in this area.
Jul 21. Pine Creek (Morgan Creek) to Bear L. No issues as long as the wind blew but still moments in the late afternoon and eve, especially in the boulder pile areas of the lake shoreline were very bad indeed. Hundred kills per hour sort of stuff or worse; mosquito net on. Moves into the tent led to hunting and killing of a good ten or more even with fairly quick and skillful entry.
Jul. 22-28: Split L., Spire L., Peppermint Pass, Not Cox, Gabbot Pass, Upper Mills Creek L., Teddy/Brown Bear/Beartrap, Jumble L., Granite Park etc. Weather cooled and was consistently breezy (and we were at higher altitude, too). total number of mosquitoes killed during those 7 days was about 10 which is to say nearly negligible.

Aug 4-6 North Lake to Darwin Canyon via Lamarck Col: 0

I did see a couple mosquitoes when passing through the campground at North Lake; so, you might have some if you car camp there. I think that campground is a mosquito haven.
