I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

The Caldor Fire in El Dorado County that began Monday has grown from 10 square miles to about 45sq-m in just one day. I've been mentioning over a few years how wildfires in that area during dry periods were they to move west towards Placerville and its US50 corrider to Tahoe could potentially be the worst ever in the state because of the high densities of structures within overgrown combustible landscapes. Generally daytime winds over the next several days will be west to east towards higher elevations while at night lower winds reverse to the west.

El Dorado NF:
My sister lives outside of Placerville, not far from Grizzly Flats; they are ready to start evacuating if the wind changes. :(

Walkers Fire 8/18

Post by maverick »

InciWeb:
The Walkers Fire was discovered Sunday August 15, burning in the Golden Trout Wilderness in the Western Divide Ranger District in Sequoia National Forest. The fire is located approximately 18 miles northeast of Springville, within the burned area of the 2015 Cabin Fire and 2011 Lion Fire.

The fire continues to spread through drought-stricken brush, standing dead trees, and a lot of dead and down vegetation. Four air tankers were again utilized Tuesday to slow the spread. Due to the remote location, crews are being shuttled in by helicopters. Fireline is being constructed to include natural barriers where possible.

The fire history in the Golden Trout Wilderness is extensive over the past decade. The northern perimeter of the 2020 Castle Fire is located south of the Walkers Fire and is expected to stop fire from threatening communities south of the Wilderness boundary.

No structures are immediately threatened. Planning is underway to protect wilderness structures farther from the fire’s edge as the fire continues to grow. Actions planned are full suppression utilizing all available resources, recognizing life and property will take priority for resources throughout the state.

The Forest Service always prioritizes the safety of its firefighters and surrounding communities. During difficult seasons such as this one, firefighting resources are limited, requiring risk assessment of multiple fires that are competing for limited resources.

There are three interagency hotshot crews, two type 2 hand crews, three helicopters, an air attack plane, and several overhead personnel assigned to the Walkers Fire.

Wilderness trailheads located in the Sequoia National Forest near the Walkers Fire remain closed under the Castle Fire Area, Roads, and Trails Closure https://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DO ... 926055.pdf.

Wilderness trails near the Walkers Fire, southeast of Hockett Meadows in the neighboring Sequoia National Park, maybe temporarily closed to stop travel further into the fire area. Trails will be signed where closed if this becomes necessary. https://www.nps.gov/seki/index.htm.
