Pine Creek > Seldon > Pine Creek 7/15-7/24

Post by erutan »

2021-07-15 to 2021-07-24: Pine Creek TH > Pine Creek Pass > Hutchinson Meadow > Pinnacles Basins > Lower Turret Lake (via Old Squaw to Middle Turret) > PCJMT a few minutes below Senger Creek > Seldon Pass > Rosemarie Meadow to Orchid & Apollo Lakes > Hilgard Fork of Bear Creek > Ursula Pass (lol) > Bear Lakes Basin > Dancing Bear Pass > Italy Pass > Pine Creek TH

Mosquitos mostly 0-2 depending on where you were terrain wise. A 3-4 from Rosebud Meadow up to Orchid Lake, and probably a 3 in upper Granite Park.

MINERAL KING LOOP 7/18-7/24

Post by 82DMC12 »

Just got back from "a" Mineral King Loop July 18 - July 24

Cold Springs Camp - 1
Monarch Lake / Sawtooth / Columbine - 0
Lost Canyon - 2 but only at the lowest elevation near the Soda Creek turn-off
Big Five (upper) - 1
Nine Lakes Basin - 0
Hamilton Lake - 0
Bearpaw area - 1 or 2 depending on the swampiness of the area, however there are more flies here than skeeters
Cliff Creek - 1 or 2 right along the creek

In all, got only 2 or 3 bites in 7 days and only put bug spray on once. Very pleasant week.

Amphitheater Lake Basin - 2
Palisade Creek Deer Meadow area - 3

Sam Mack meadow - 2
Hi,

How did you reach the Red Lake trailhead? TIA.
By car. Info is on the Inyo NF web site and there are some trip reports online. FYI, this section of the forum is for mosquito reports only, if you have any other questions about trailheads etc. - ask them in the proper section. I started a trip report in the Backpacking section titled "Palisades Loop - July 11-17" that contains some Red Lake trailhead info. Good luck.

Loop around Mt Senger out of Florence Lake 7/22-7/25

Post by tomba »

Route: Florence Lake, Senger Creek, Upper Turret Lakes, Three Island Lake, Medley Lake, Marie Lake, Selden Pass and back.

Mosquitoes were not an issue most of the time. Occasional single mosquito. The only place where they were bothersome was a segment of the trail near Double Meadow, between Florence Lake and Muir Trail Ranch. No need for head net or DEET, but I had to wear long sleeve clothes and keep moving.

Yosemite Cathedral Range July 25-31

Post by wildhiker »

Traversed from one high lake basin to another along the Cathedral Range in Yosemite National Park, from 9,300 to 10,700 foot elevation, with passes up to 11,700 feet. Basically no mosquitoes anywhere, despite wet weather and wet meadows.

July 31-Aug 1 Route: Rowell Meadow->JO Pass->Silliman Pass->Ranger Lake (camp)->Lost Lake-> Rowell Meadow

Mosquito severity: 2 - no mosquitos during the day on any of the trail. There was running water in many streams, plenty of boggy areas, and even a rain shower during the afternoon that flooded trails, but mosquitos only emerged at dusk when we were camping on the shore of Ranger Lake. And they were only a very mild nuisance.
