Smoke around the Minarets

Post by desertdawg »

Planning on doing a loop starting Friday going over Rodgers Pass doing a loop south coming back over North Glacier Pass. I was wondering if anybody has been there in the past few days and can elaborate on the smoke. Mammoth Lakes Ranger station said it's been clear in the mornings with hazy afternoons. I like my views pretty clear so this report has me concerned.

Thanks

I've been really impressed by this link given on the smoke conditions thread. Today showing even thin smoke is just localy west down in the San Joaquin River canyon. Also the fire status shows it is not likely to expand. However from day to day depends on local low level mountain winds which are not likely predictable a few days out.

I was up at Royce lakes and Pine Creek Pass last weekend, and no smoke at all as you can see from this pic taken from Pine Creek Pass in the afternoon. Phil

A friend of mine was just over Glacier Pass during the weekend to Lake Catherine and beyond. No smoke showing at all.
