Not a viable long-term solution, I have gotten a reputation and for some reason don't have many companions nowadays

Problem for me is that there is no one slower that is still backpacking!
You don't need to be constantly hiking together, set a meet-up/camping spot ahead of time along with your route, the other person can go fishing, photograph, or climb a peak until you get there. But your good company OR, so who needs to be in a rush. :)

Hiking separate kind of misses the point! When I hike with my son, even off trail we are mostly hiking separately. About the time I start swearing where the f....... is he ! there he is leaning against a rock or a tree waiting for me, sometimes asleep!
