Partner for Owen's Peak Friday 11/25

A forum to initiate member meet-up. Looking for a hiking/climbing/fishing/skiing/etc. partner, or are you planning a trip where you wouldn't mind having some company? Last minute invites can be just as fun as a well-planned group trip (sometimes even better) so don't be shy! And be sure to post a trip report to the appropriate forum when you get back.

Partner for Owen's Peak Friday 11/25

Post by zacjust32 »

**UPDATE**

Full trail report can be found here: Owens Peak TR

In anticipation of REI's OptOutside campaign this Black Friday, I'm searching for a partner to climb Owen's Peak with me this Friday.

From SummitPost.com:
This mountain stands as the most dominant peak in the Southern Sierra area right outside the towns of Ridgecrest and Inyokern. The hike up to the summit is short but intense, gaining around 2850 feet in around 2 miles. The views from the top are impressive. Telescope peak can be seen to the east, Mt Whitney, Langley and Olancha to the north, Lake Isabella to the west, and desert views all around you. The route up is mostly a hike, but does involve scrambling on some class 2 granite slabs and one short boulder hop before that.
If you're interested in coming let me know. I can do Saturday too if Friday doesn't work for anyone that wants to go.

Probably won't impact your Southern plan, but keep an eye out.

RENO, Nev. — A trio of storms on their way into the Sierra could make for hazardous travel into the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, with several inches of snow expected around Lake Tahoe and a mix of snow and mostly rain in the Reno area.

The first of the back-to-back-to-back storms should arrive Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning. As much 8 inches of snow is possible in the mountains above Lake Tahoe and up to 5 inches at lake level by Wednesday.

Forecasters say Thanksgiving Day itself may be the best day for travel with sunny skies and mild conditions.

The second storm is expected to move into the Sierra late Friday, and another one is possible as a colder system arrives on Sunday.
