Heading solo out of North Lake trailhead over Piute Pass on 9/8/20.

A forum to initiate member meet-up. Looking for a hiking/climbing/fishing/skiing/etc. partner, or are you planning a trip where you wouldn't mind having some company? Last minute invites can be just as fun as a well-planned group trip (sometimes even better) so don't be shy! And be sure to post a trip report to the appropriate forum when you get back.

Heading solo out of North Lake trailhead over Piute Pass on 9/8/20.

First leg of 5 week trip will be 2 weeks in between Piute Pass and VVR for resupply. Fly fishing as many lakes and streams as possible along the way. Humphrys Basin, Puppet Lake, Graveyard Lakes, Granite Park and many more. Going solo so a friend or two would be cool. Hit me up. Christopher

Hope you are paying attention to the new "Creek" fire on the Sierra National Forest. See:

Everything up hwy 168, including Lake Edison and Florence Lake areas, is under a mandatory
evacuation. Besides choking you with smoke, if you proceed on this trip, there won't be anybody
at VVR to resupply you.

Thank you Phil. I just got wind of this today and am going to reroute back out to Bishop for resupply and go back in down in Kings somewhere. Hopefully. Good looking out though. 🤘🤠🤘

Hate to say it, but a smoke-filled hike is worse than just no fun, and resupply is perhaps the least of your concerns. Really, it's pretty bad at the moment.

Have to jump on board with wildhiker..... the Creek fire is a monster, firefighters experiencing unprecedented fire behavior. There are other fires burning in the general vicinity but are not being talked about because they are not "big acreage" fires. They have been finding "sleeper" fires from the recent lightning surge that went thru. With a couple of different weather fronts approaching, this may change conditions of these smaller fires. Bottom line, just really make sure you do good intel-gathering prior to leaving. Hiking in the smoke sucks.

And now the Forest Service is completely closing all National Forests to visitors in southern California and the central and southern Sierra, including the Inyo National Forest. So you can't even legally start your hike. Really, think about doing something completely different. Maybe the Trinity Alps (but there are smoky fires in northern California, too). Maybe another state? See:
