Use this forum to stay informed on missing persons alerts, active SAR's and unfortunate hiker accidents we can all hopefully learn from. Any information you may have on a missing person, including first hand weather related information or any other insight (however little) may prove to be critical information to Law Enforcement / SAR in locating the person in question.

Inyo SAR Lone Pine Peak 9/22

Post by maverick »

Inyo Co Sheriff's Dept:
Inyo Search and Rescue responded to a party of two on Lone Pine Peak. One of the climbers had fallen on the North Ridge climbing route (about 12,000’) and fractured his elbow. The climbers self-rescued to a safe spot east of the ridge but due to the injury, were not able to get off the mountain by themselves.
CHP Helicopter H-82 was called for assistance and met SAR at Lone Pine airport. At about 4pm in the afternoon, the helicopter flew one team member to Lone Pine Peak and lowered her with the hoist cable to the climbers. The patient was packaged into a "hot seat" - a combination of harness and seat - and hoisted to the helicopter. After flying the patient to Lone Pine airport, the helicopter returned for the patient's climbing partner and the Inyo SAR team member.
Inyo SAR and Inyo SO want to thank CHP - Inland Division Air Operations for their assistance.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.
