Alpine Co SAR Incident Winnemucca Lake

Post by maverick »

Alpine Co. Sheriff's Dept:
Helicopter Performs Night Rescue
Friday night, CHP helicopter (H-24) responded to Winnemucca Lake where a female hiker suffered a medical episode leaving her stuck on a rock ledge. H-24 was able to quickly locate her in a nearly vertical rock crevasse. Two Alpine County Search and Rescue (SAR) rope rescue technicians, one Alpine County deputy and a Lake Valley Fire Department paramedic were inserted by H-24. Due to difficult terrain in the area, H-24 couldn’t land so all rescuers stepped off the helicopter while it was hovering above rocks. The rescue team created a rope system, rescuing the hiker and beginning medical treatment. The hiker was carried back to H-24 and loaded onboard for transport to a landing zone where an ambulance was standing by. The hiker was transported by ground ambulance to an area hospital for additional treatment.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.
