Inyo SAR Incident 7/27 Mt.Whitney

Post by maverick »

Inyo Co Sheriff's Dept:

Three hikers were stranded at 12,600 feet on Mt. Whitney Tuesday morning. At the request of California Governor's Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES), at 0800 a Cal Guard Chinook helicopter based out of the Stockton Army Aviation Support Facility departed to Mount Whitney along with three members of the Inyo County SAR team. After a 20-minute flight, the crew located the hikers. Landing with only their rear wheels on the mountain, the crew was able to safely load them and return them to the Bishop Airport.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.
