Please help distribute info about a missing hiker-Sequoia NP

Use this forum to stay informed on missing persons alerts, active SAR's and unfortunate hiker accidents we can all hopefully learn from. Any information you may have on a missing person, including first hand weather related information or any other insight (however little) may prove to be critical information to Law Enforcement / SAR in locating the person in question.

Hi Dana,

Not much info on the flyer, can you include the dates she started and when she
planned on exiting from the area. Was she planning to use the trails for her entire
trip? Which lakes did she plan on staying at first, you indicate Sawtooth Pass Trail
but then started off with your list of lakes with Franklin Lakes? Did she plan to climb
any peaks while out? Thanks for any additional info you can supply which may be
helpful in finding Johnnie.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

She was day hiking out of Mineral King. Has visited MK before and has extensive
experience hiking in the Sierra. Dates are unknown since there is no wilderness
permits for day hiking, so SEKI has no info which lake was visited first or what
her itinerary was going to be. No info on peak bagging. They were not sure whether
her car was found at the campground she was staying or at the trailhead parking,
hopefully they will be able to supply us this info later on.

Echoing Shawn's thoughts. A sad outcome for the family. My thoughts go out to them and to the many people involved in the search.

Personally, this has been another difficult story to follow. She was from Marin and from the photo in the flyer, I thought I recognize this woman. I've run across her on trails in Point Reyes and Mount Tamalpais. It would just be in passing and so it was only a simple smile and hello, and on one occasion a brief conversation. She was a fellow kindred spirit. I hope her spirit resides in the places she loved.
I don’t need a goal destination. I need a destination that meets my goals.
