Hey All,

I'm on the Board of Directors for Snowlands.

I wanted to get the word out that the Tahoe NF is hosting scoping meetings for its winter travel management process. No matter your view on human-powered winter recreation and motorized winter recreation, if you want your voice to be heard, there's a process starting that will allow you to speak up. Here's Snowlands's comment on it:
The Tahoe National Forest has published the scoping notice starting its winter travel management process. This is the time to speak up for protection of more areas for nonmotorized recreation in the Tahoe National Forest. Travel management is increasingly important due to increased demand for backcountry skiing and the trend for higher snow levels.

The national forest can tolerate and sustain use by more persons through travel management because of the disproportionate impact of motorized use. There is a lot of land in the Tahoe NF (though much of it is far from winter trailheads and thus hard for most non-motorized users to reach). Snowlands does NOT seek to shut down the most popular OSV areas with groomed trails.

Five meetings are scheduled to receive initial public input. All are from 4 to 7pm:

March 2 : TNF Forest Headquarters, 631 Coyote Street, Nevada City

March 3: Truckee District Ranger Station, 10811 Stockton Springs Road, Truckee

March 4: Sierraville District Ranger Station, 317 South Lincoln Street, Sierraville

March 5: Sierra City Community Hall, 13 Castagna Alley, Sierra City

March 9: Foresthill Fire Department, 24320 Main Street, Foresthill

The Forest Service scoping notice is here: http://fs.federalregisterwatch.com/a/20 ... 15-03595/0. (keep pushing the "Next" button and you will get to the proposed action.
