lots of snow in the southern Sierra

Post by John Dittli »

We just returned from the second snow survey of the season down on the upper Kern. We spent 12 days measuring snow between Cottonwood Pass and Shepherd Pass and west to Little Whitney and Ramshaw Meadows. The average snow/water equivalent was ~136% of April 1 max and 152% to date. Percentages increased at lower courses to ~190% (these figures are mine and do not necessarily represent those of the State of California).

Thanks for sharing. I love the one of the foxtails on Bighorn Plateau.
I don’t need a goal destination. I need a destination that meets my goals.

Thanks JD for the 411 on the snow averages, and a taste of what the Kern looks
like in the winter.
Really like the lines in 17, 18 (looks like sand dune), and 25, which is my favorite
in the series since I all ways enjoyed the Foxtail-snow combo.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

They are all beautiful photos! I'd hate to sit on that toilet in the A.M. Thanks for sharing the views of places that i have never seen in winter.
