Post by rlown »

Should be tomorrow. Highway 37 was closed as was 101. Warm storm.. could get worse, and rain in the Sierra.. Major melt.

I read that because of the rains that the Kern River peaked Wed night at 24,000cfs. The water was running through Kernville park.

Oroville dam looks to be under distress as well.

The spillway has the hole, not the dam. At this point the "distress" is manageable.

I did a lot of post-1997-8 flood damage evaluations. What we have now is nothing like that, thank goodness. A sudden warming and melting of Sierra snow before the ground gets dried out a bit down here, could however, be quite serious. Not there yet. Hopefully this will not happen.

Lake Berryessa is almost full and will probably overflow the Glory Hole this weekend! This will be the first overflow in a decade!
