Carrizo Plain

Post by copeg »

Last week spent a few days in the Carrizo Plain Very amazing seeing the difference between when I was there last year compared to this year, the plain looked like it was still stuck in fall/winter rather than moving into spring...not a single wildflower to be seen (pretty much expected with the amount of rain).
It surprisingly rained much of the time, so many of the places I had hoped to explore were too muddy even for 4wd. Saw tons of pronghorn, and we stopped near los banos to see some long eared owls (http://www.flickr.com/photos/copeg/468492965/) and in Cambria on the way home (http://www.flickr.com/photos/copeg/471277031/)

Cool owl photo! I saw pronghorns near Montgomery pass once. Beautiful animals!

Thanks CinnamonGirl and Snowy. Pronghorns are very cool animals...these ones I saw looked a tad mang - we saw a heard of them locking horns alongside the road which was awesome.

Great Photo! It's great to hear that herd is still around. I used to see pronghorn off of 41 before Cholame in the spring, but have not seen them around in years.
