Is this your dream job? The Shasta-Trinity National Forest is seeking a Wilderness/Climbing Ranger! Forestry Technician (Wilderness) GS-462-05 and this is a seasonal full-time position located in Mt. Shasta, California.

This position is located on a Forest Service unit and serves as a wilderness/climbing ranger performing work in support of the unit's wilderness and climbing programs during the summer season.

Duties: Climbing patrols are conducted for the purpose of contacting independent and guided climbers to educate about climbing conditions, proper safe climbing techniques, permit compliance, Leave No Trace ethic, etc., monitoring and evaluating outfitter guide performance, monitor public use of climbing routes and cross-country areas for the purposes of resource protection and wilderness management, and assist with Search and Rescues. Additionally, employees maintain wilderness trailheads, developed day-use areas, and complete front country patrols. This position includes irregular work hours (up to 12 hr. days) and overnight stay in the field (10,000 ft. base camp).

The following specialized skills are required:
• Employees patrol wildernesses that includes mountaineering routes of technical terrain where ability to travel on snow, glaciers, steep rock, and mountainous terrain is a frequent activity. A high level of physical fitness is required to perform these duties in inclement weather and at high altitudes (14,179 ft.)
• Familiarization and use of crampons, ice axes, skis and/or snowboards
• The incumbent is responsible to know and use roped-travel techniques
• Backcountry ski or snowboarding skills
