Moderators, please move this if this isn't the right place for it.
On March 27th, a PCT hiker near Idyllwild, CA slipped on some ice and slid. He succumbed to his injuries.
His father wrote an article about this son here: https://thetrek.co/pacific-crest-trail/ ... He9D3YATDs

So sad. Regardless of your opinion of PCT hikers who are defying the order to stay put, mean messages to the dad of this hiker are inappropriate. It is hard to believe how nasty some people on social media are. I am glad the dad gave his side of the story.

Daisy, Being on the other side of the monitor and keyboard it's easy to be a bully...That said it will not bring the young man home and people don't need to inflict undue pain into the family that just had a hole torn out of their fabric. It's just not constructive and people ought to just lay low. Again the old adage "If ya don't have anything nice to say". Shut the hell up.

What a heartbreaking loss and a beautiful tribute. No matter how strongly we feel one way or the other - and I feel very strongly that folks should not be out hiking right now - there is nothing but sorrow when anyone who loves these wild places is taken from us.

The love of a father for his late son. A tragic loss. A beautiful memorial. He succeeded in giving a human dimension to what is usually a forgotten statistic.

Agreed with all posters above. That was a profoundly moving write-up about his son.

The young man sounds like he lived a wonderful life. There is celebration and contentment to be had by making a positive impact on the people you love, and getting to live your dream, even if it was for far too short a time. Wishing peace and strength for those who knew and cared about him.

Well written by the father. It's always horrible to read/hear a story about a young person who passed away while doing what they love. :crybaby:

Woof - so tragic. Born the same year as my daughter. It always makes your heart skip a beat reading these stories of such young lives cut short by tragedy. My heart and sympathy to his family and loved ones :( Such a beautiful memorial
