Fire Damage To Scotty's Castle DV

Post by maverick »

Inyo Sheriff's Dept:
This morning, a fire destroyed the historic garage and damaged a second historic outbuilding at Scotty’s Castle. This historic district in Death Valley National Park has been closed for ongoing repair work after extensive flood damage in 2015. The historic main house and other surrounding historic structures were unharmed. The cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation.
Scotty’s Castle was constructed in the 1920s as a vacation home for Albert and Bessie Johnson, millionaires from Chicago. Since its construction, Scotty’s Castle has drawn visitors seeking the truth behind the legend that it was built on a gold mine owned by the Johnsons’ friend, Walter “Scotty” Scott.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

Missed this info and is sad to read now. During the 2016 "superbloom" that started media use of that now common social media term for wildflower events. I did a second long road trip into areas of the Scotty's Castle zone that has fascinating colorful geology.
