Applied for a permit to visit the Wave in Utah.
Didn't make the cut last year, trying again.

A buddy of mine was just there. I didn't realize how hard it is to get a permit. Best of luck.

Same for me tried lottery 3 times then in person 3 times. First in person try there were 40 for 10 spots. Last 2 in excess of 100. Tried 2 times in late October and once in mid may- guess we should try for January.

SCORE!!!!

Got a walkup permit for Wednesday 9/8.

Downside: predicted temperature of 98F. Looks like we'll be driving to the trailhead in the dark and start hiking as soon as we can see... Hopefully back by noonish.

Well, your thoughts didn't get here. The hike in was great, we were on the trail before sunrise, temp in the low 60s. Nice hike in. No real trail, but a route to follow. If you have any map reading or route finding skills you will have no problem. About half the distance (3 mile one way to the beginning of the Wave complex) is over sandstone slick rock. On the hike out, all the slick rock became a reflector oven. My pack thermometer read 95 at noon, but it felt like well over 100. We had 10 liters of water between us. Wife had three and I, being the designated Sherpa, carried 7. Returned with less than 2.
Typing this from a phone. When I get a good wifi signal I will submit a better trip report from my computer.

I'll make one small suggestion. That much plain water is good, but also take some electrolyte powder such as Gatorade, Cytomax, etc. You don't even have to mix it up at full strength. I drink mine at about half strength. The flavor will help you sip fluids all day long.
