Rescuers robbed at gunpoint trying to aid distressed PCT hkr

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

Why is that surprising? Walking someone off the trail is normal SAR behavior. So is having to walk out on your own after a search.

The PCT crosses a lot of roads too. The banditos might have been not so far into the backcountry as all that -- nor the hiker, nor the volunteers. The Piute Mountains are a major OHV area - lots of roads and "roads."
I just found it strange they would go to all the trouble to hike in to then rob someone when they could just do it near a trail head closer for escape is all.

Armed robbery for a couple of radios. Maybe a pittance of cash? High risk, low return. Remember the golden rule "don't be a d..k"
“Posterity! You will never know, how much it cost the present generation, to preserve your Freedom! I hope you will make a good use of it. If you do not, I shall repent in Heaven, that I ever took half the pains to preserve it.”
