sketchbook 2019

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

So, if I get that right, you're using watercolors and good ol' pens? And what kind of paper do you use? Because my wife does watercolors as well, but when she uses colors as vibrant as the ones you use and superpose them (like on the hills behind the pie restaurant on your second to last drawing), the paper just gets soaked and start bending itself.

But I'll stop with the technical questions - it does look awesome, I've looked at your other sketchbooks and it's great to see the evolution of your style!

Yakov...welcome to HST!
Good paper for watercolor is not really paper but made out of cotton.
I use/carry 140 pound, cold press, cotton paper and Winsor Newton watercolors.
As to my kit? Many types of pens - some that readily bleed and others that are colorfast...also make use of waterpens too. (see photo.)

As to how? The trick is to let things dry before overpainting. It's lucky that our Sierra, at altitude, is low humidity...things dry fast. Still a slow process but luckily, there is usually something else to do.

BTW, this is what's being worked on now. Bridge above Yosemite Falls.

Here's one of mine--Rutherford Lake at dusk. Love this time of day, with just a fingernail of moon.
