Markskor in Hospital

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

Markskor in Hospital

Post by oldranger »

Friday afternoon received call from Mark that he was in the hospital in Reno and seriously ill. He had been there for some time but just received his cell phone. Anyhow i packed up quickly drove to Reno to check on him. His son was present and brother and sister were due to arrive shortly. Plan was to transfer him to University of California San Diego medical center for treatment of leukemia mid week. Sunday AM he was doing well enough that they cleared him to fly today (Monday the 17) I was sent to mamomoth to retrieve some clothes, art supplies and his backpack with all gear. I checked in with him when I got back from mammoth and he was doing ok. This AM I visited him one more time before returning to Bend. He had a rough night and was tired. I stayed until his son could return then hit the road to return to Bend.

Mark will be getting a laptop soon so I suggest best wishes go thru the forum/or pms or email but he will not likely be able to receive them or respond for a couple of days. He is quite tired so I would not recommend calls on his cell phone until/unless he posts that he wants calls. I would expect that some time in the future he would appreciate visits but not until he posts that he wants them. I will be communicating with his son Bryan for updates and will share them with you all.

I'm sure that like me this is devastating news to you all and lets all pray or wish or whatever your preference for his recovery and return to the mountains he loves.
Mike

Hey Markskor,

Best wishes for your complete recovery. You've got to live up to Mikes' vision:
I can't believe I allow someone almost as old as me to accompany me in the backcountry. Still have visions of us ambling along the trail with a walker and some young ranger kicking us off the trail because of the wheels we need to keep on truckin.

Markskor,

All the best wishes for your recovery. It's a long, hard road, but you've been down a few so you know you can make it. I want to come across you someday on a trail and share stories.

Old Ranger, thanks for letting us all know so we can send out healing thoughts.
