Understanding Inyo Recreation.gov reservations

Looking forward, there are many trailheads for which Recreation.Gov is allowing reservations in the Inyo administered wildernesses to be made for backpacking in July and August. But there are others that are just white, showing nothing. Not that they are filled, but they are not reservable.

I have not been able to find instructions or an announcement that makes sense out of this. Has anyone else?

It generally looks like it is possible to reserve destinations that do not link up with through trails, but not anything that crosses over. But even that is not quite accurate. I just can't figure it out.

Hi,

My take on this is as follows:

For a given trailhead, the dates of entry that are "just white, showing nothing" are those dates for which all reservable spots have been reserved. Such dates strongly correlate with popular trailheads (understandably).

Good luck in the 2020 Permit Game. In mathematics, we would characterize it as a GAME OF IMPERFECT INFORMATION!

Jim
