Web Sky: what is that?

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

Web Sky: what is that?

Post by mort »

I'm poking around in websky https://tools.airfire.org/websky/v2/run ... 021082712?
And looking at the continental U.S. From about Arkansas east & south. I see that these are satellite "hotspot" detections, but what are they? Starbucks coffee roasters?

Mort, I like your tongue-in-cheek suggestion, but this looks like the kind of smoke forecasting some folk on HST have been seeking. Since I got caught in smoky skies on Aug.7th and spent a week in moderate-to-bad particulates, this should be a boon for some folk who remain determined to backpack in fire season. For the rest, there's a vanilla latte......... Cameron

Yeah, I noticed this tool last year, but never really found it to be that great. Should probably revisit that assumption.
