ads and subject matter

Post by rlown »

It seemed that the ads were aimed at things familiar with the outdoors. I just got this showing up when online:

Don't click on that by the way.. If you're windows only "trust" windows update.

Did the ad mix change somehow? thought I should be seeing things like REI and other camping related sites.. Also got solar ads.. hmm

I think it goes by your own cookies. I ordered checks online from costco last week, and all I get are ads for checks now...

AT is right. In part the Google AdSense ads (in the ads note the blue "X" and blue arrow as indicators) go by cookies - Russ must have been trolling Windows 10 sites or something ;)

I have some control over content of AdSense ads but it's pretty limited. AdSense represents about 50% of revenue keeping this site going, followed by targeted backpacking-related ads (much better control...REI, etc.) at 40% and donations represent 10%. AdSense pays for views, clicks and purchases. All other ads only pay for purchases.

i knew the cookie factor, but it seemed more intense today for some reason, pointing in other directions. we'll go with the site revenue. :)

what really seemed to change is that i get targeted ads now on the top bar, and camping related ads on the bottom.

Right now, i can fix planes on the top and and trade gear on the bottom bar. that didn't used to happen.. yesterday..

FWIW, I think clicking on the blue x allows you some options for not seeing a particular ad or ad category again.
