2017 Current snow conditions for E. Sierra

Post by DAVELA »

Would be good to have a thread that has updated info on snow conditions from the trailhead parking lots in the Eastern Sierra and up to Yosemite.

Hello "Davela"

Below I've included an email add. that should get you to the very comprehensive report provided by the Eastern Sierra Avalanche Advisory. I'm not sure how long this will continue, the Central Cal A.A. is slated to cease posting by the end of this month I believe. Another good weather data site is NOAA. You can type in the location of interest, and receive a full weeks weather prediction. All the best, Harlen.

Spoke with a ranger at the mammoth station two weeks ago. At that time they had 20-30 ft of snow at the trailheads there. They were expecting another 15 ft last week. I had reservations for Memorial Day Weekend, but canceled due to conditions... trying to find another weekend in August up there.

Not the E sierra but ...The wife and I headed up to Wolverton last weekend to scout around. Hiked out of lodge pole and Wolverton. Patchy dirt at 7k, but above 7k, all snow. about 3 to 5 feet at 8k and I was told that the Pear Lake Hut ihas 9 feet at 9k. Supposed to be hot this weekend and I am headed up to hike Alta peak and stay at the hut, so ill have more info if any one needs it.

still tons of snow at the Pear lake ranger station at 9500'. No telling exactly how much snow is there, but it's a lot. Ranger station is still covered to the eves and stil probably 6-7' at the rivers edge where it is open. Hikes to Alta and the view of nothing but snow was incredible.

Wow! Thanks for sharing bigpiney. That video really puts things into perspective on how long a big snowpack takes to clear.

Looks like I'll have to wait for that slice of pie at TPR.
