Dry Creek Meadow

Post by maverick »

Also know as the Seven Tea Cups, anyone visit this place before, it's down on the Kern, east of Johnsondale?

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

It is a well know canyoneering route. Have run it several times. Short and quite pretty. Exits into the Kern. Can be approached from either the top down or by hiking up the Kern and then climbing slick rock on side of canyon. It is a technical class C and can be extremely dangerous in high water - as is crossing the Kern. It is also run has a kayaking route. Was planning on running it again this July, but probably not doable this year until August - unless you like extreme conditions.

Oh it is definitely a fun canyon. If you don't have class C experience (even if you are skilled at rappelling), I would run it with someone who has done it or gp with one of the canyoneering groups that does it regularly. There are good canyoneering groups out of SoCal and Vegas (the one I co-run) that do it and take others. Or run it very late in the year when there is little flow.

I've just seen where it spills into the Kern, as I was above JD bridge fishing a few years back. Looks pretty rad. Dry Meadow Creek I think is what it is called, although the last few years, either term would apply.
