Lamarck Col

Post by hailsfromrockies »

Hi everyone,
I'm planning a solo trip 10/6-10/9 or so and considering going up and over Lamarck Col. Saw a note on the park service site that as of 8/17 there was enough snow on the east side to warrant an ice ax and crampons. Has anyone been up there in the last month? Is that still true? I don't mind bringing microspikes but would rather not take on something solo that requires more than that.

This trip is weather dependent of course. I won't be venturing forth if there's new snow in the forecast!

Thanks in advance,
Kiely

Professional Sierra Landscape Photographer

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

I wasn't up there, but from White mountain on Sat sept 23rd, it looked like a lot of snow up high.

We won't cross paths but I'm planning a 4 day outing Oct 10-13. Sabrina -> Midnight Lake -> Haeckel Col -> Evolution Basin -> the unnamed pass between Lamarck & Darwin Col that takes you to Schober Holes -> Bottleneck Lake -> Sabrina. Weather permitting, of course. And, yes, I'll post a TR if we go.
