Lost Memory Card on PCT/JMT around Muir Trail Ranch June 24

Post by Steven H »

Hope dies last: maybe, just maybe, somebody found my memory card.
This was on the afternoon of June 24, 2020, day 5 of an 8-day trip with my wife. Lollipop loop from Pine Creek via Italy Pass, some XC with a bit of PCT.
While southbound on the PCT between the two MTR connector trails, the full 64-gig memory card containing all of the previous days' pics fell from my holster. It was entirely my fault.
Next day, when we realized it was gone, we hiked 15 miles extra, trying to find it. No luck. At least 20-30 PCT thru- and section-hikers walked past that point by then, so I hope somebody found it.
If that's so, please contact me at hike@yourownhike.com. I will be eternally grateful.
Also, I would welcome any ideas where else to post this plea. I know the main PCTA forums are offline because of the current situation.

The card: Sandisk "Extreme" 64-gigs in white translucent sleeve. Contains app. 2,400 .cr2 files. (Yes, I know, I take way too many pictures. Can't help it).

I put up a page with more details on our website:
https://yourownhike.com/lost_memory_card.html

Thank you so much for reading this!

Let's help Steven H find his memory card.

John Muir Trail Group (He can make a post there)

Maybe someone dropped it off at VVR?

What forums/pages do other HSTrs know about that Steven H can contact/post to connect with someone who may have found his card?

Bummer, Steven. I've alerted some friends up at MTR and their neighbors to be on the lookout. Needle in the hay stack, but hopefully it's found. Positive thoughts.

The FB current conditions reports page might be worthwhile.

Thanks for all the tips. Already contacted MTR and VVR and posted on the JMT group. I'll start processing the non-lost pictures soon, will post some as they come along.

Those are good adds. Wishing you all the best of luck. We've found things like that on here before (even a wedding ring!). Keep the faith in your fellow backpacker buddy.

Hey Steven! I believe I met you on your route! We saw each other in the bear lakes area and then again coming down from seven gables near the PCT trail. I was with my wife and we had a brief conversation. Sorry to hear about you losing your card. I did not see it either. Hope that it turns up somehow.

Hey Drew! Yes, that's us. Good to hear from you. Hope you had a nice trip. We had a great time, even with this debacle. My wife shot a few of her own, and well, memories remain.
