Snow Nymph?

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

Snow Nymph?

Post by giantbrookie »

Old school Topix folks, I couldn't help notice the personalized plates on an FJ parked at the Pine Creek trailhead when I returned there on Jul. 28. I remember the years when she was such an enthusiastic peak bagger and posted so many wonderful reports. Anyhow I was reminded that we haven't seen a post from her on Topix in a very long time.
Since my fishing (etc.) website is still down, you can be distracted by geology stuff at: http://www.fresnostate.edu/csm/ees/facu ... ayshi.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Hi John,
And, she had a pretty comprehensive knowledge of obscure spots and routes. Well, if someone knows her, maybe she can be enticed back?I found her commentary very informative and helpful! Maybe that boulder run in that Maverick discussed in 2013 played a role? Cameron

Last I recall, she had purchased a new FJ. So that could have very well been her. Yeah, I don't know why she left the forum but if you see the FJ again you might want to leave a note....

She still maintains her SmugMug page with posts as recent as a climb up Dana in July. Here's the link. Yeah, I miss her posting here.

If I remember correctly Snowy had experienced some personal issues and chose to shrink her internet / social media world.

gary c. is correct. She had an awful experience that really changed some things in her life. I don't want to give any details because they're not mine to give. I and a few of the older members here are FB friends with her. She posts trip reports there just for her close network. I didn't notice this until just now, but she still has a link to HST in her FB profile lol.

I have no idea what happened to @AlmostThere

Yes, that's her.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

Have a safer backcountry experience by using the HST ReConn Form 2.0, named after Larry Conn, a HST member: http://reconn.org

We've obviously been around a long time, and I've found there's an ebb and flow when it comes to longtime active members. Some take a break and come back, some don't. Sometimes they leave because of something another member (or I) said or did, sometimes not. There are other back in the day posters like Windwalker, Hikin' Mike, gdurkee, mountaineer, DoyleWDonehoo and Buck Forester whom for whatever reason have largely decided to move on. I'm still in contact with a few of those names on FB, but haven't felt it appropriate to ask them why they left (although I have an idea why for a couple of them). I'm sure they have their reasons, and I respect those reasons whatever they may be.
