Anyone know someone who hikes up to Piute pass? Like end of June.

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

The correct course of action here would be to "LOL" at me and call me a "brovocateur".
Great, thanks for the clarification, but don't expect everyone to be up on some obscure urban lingo, which could cause folks to misinterpret and take as an insult, as was it this case.
You could always try asking: "Mind clarifying what you mean?" or "Did you mean that as an insult?"

It's always better to just jump on the moral high ground, and be righteous & offended though I suppose.

Again a simple request. Quit interrupting if you don't know..

Anyone know someone like a trail runner in bishop. I know there are a few as they were there even in September last time I was there. If you know someone in Bishop who hikes early season up and back to Piute pass, that is who I want to talk to.

Hey Russ,

A handful of years ago I was day hiking Mt. Emerson and just before Loch Leven a trail runner zipped by me, but stopped to chat for a few minutes. He went by the user name ScottM on SummitPost, but I just checked and he doesn't seem to have a presence on there anymore. He has a place in Aspendell. Anyway, he may be on HST or an online presence elsewhere. Just my .02 cents, was hopeful he was still around.

Let me reframe you’re request: “Can you please commit to doing a hike for a guy you don’t know on the internet 8 months from now?”

Thanks Shawn.

I just want to find a contact who might be up there before I go. My target date looks to be June 29th, depending on the Winter/Spring weather.
Having someone who goes up there before me would be very handy for intel.

Rlown,

Here are some contacts in Bishop, where I have received good information re. conditions. A lot of hikers are in and out of the 2 stores below, and SMG folks know all about the local conditions, and were happy to help me in the past. Also, there is one very friendly, staff person at the White Mtn. Ranger Station in Bishop. With luck you might catch him (Stan) on the phone, I'm sure he would love to help you with the intel you seek. I'll add their # too.

Eastside Sports, Bishop: (760) 873-7520
Mammoth Gear Exchange, Bishop: (760) 873-4300
Sierra Mountain Guides [SMG], Bishop: (760) 6438-1122
White Mtn. Ranger Sta., (Stan) Bishop: (760) 873-2500

The point I was trying to make in my original comments, and the photos above are that conditions can vary wildly each year. Of course you know that already Russ, and that is the point of your interest in finding up-to-date reports, so I was wasting your time. I am genuinely curious about the possibility of ice fishing big Sierra Lakes

As I wrote before, Good luck Russ, I hope you have a drier June...

If there's good snow and ice and Russ goes ice fishing, I'm inviting myself. Then banning Ian for wishing for a dry winter (I'm a water guy, sorry Ian).

michaelzim just wrote me the following about the helpful ranger that works out of the White Mtn/Bishop office:
I had a long talk with a great guy called Stan yesterday at Inyo ranger station in Bishop. He was a total card and super helpful.
Russ, Stan is the name of the ranger I mentioned in my earlier comment to you, as a good source of intel for your 2021 H.Basin fishing trip. I'll add his name to that comment above. Ian.
