Death Valley & The Badwater F-100

Post by Mtflyer »

I did this hike 2 years ago but was unable to find the impact site due to running out of time. This time I found it along with some great stuff along the way. The F-100 Super Sabre crashed on the cliffs above Badwater on 8/18/58, the pilot ejected safely.

If anyone is thinking about trying this hike make sure you have good XC skills and climbing ability. And don't do it alone like I did. I scared myself a few times but got so caught up in finding the site of impact I couldn't turn around. Was glad to get back to the truck. If you decided to try it, Email me for the route details.

Congratulations on finding the impact site! I was in DV this weekend too. I probably could have joined you Saturday, I was solo.

It would have been nice to have you along. I don't plan on going solo on that kind of hike again.

Same here! I was solo Saturday on an "easy" 2 hr hike, then went on to do a 3rd summit (no trail) and got a little sketched on some of the class 3 stuff.
